The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), one of the important Maritime security Force of India, was first proposed by the Indian Navy to provide non military services to the nation. This force is a responsible for protecting India is coastline, maintaining Marine safety and enforcement of maritime laws. In August 1971 The Nagchaudhuri Committee was established to address the coastal security measures. The committee later identified the need for resistance in the anti smuggling efforts and Maritime laws and enforcement. As a result the Indian Coast Guard was established on 18th August 1978, under the Coast Guard Act 1978. This force is governed by the ministry of defence, with IT headquarters situated in New Delhi. One of the most crucial responsibility of ICG is to lead the search and guard operations.
