Vayam Raksamah: The Indian Coast Guard
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), one of the important Maritime security Force of India, was first proposed by the Indian Navy to provide non military services to the nation. This force is a responsible for protecting India is coastline, maintaining Marine safety and enforcement of maritime laws.
In August 1971 The Nagchaudhuri Committee was established to address the coastal security measures. The committee later identified the need for resistance in the anti smuggling efforts and Maritime laws and enforcement.
As a result the Indian Coast Guard was established on 18th August 1978, under the Coast Guard Act 1978. This force is governed by the ministry of defence, with IT headquarters situated in New Delhi.
One of the most crucial responsibility of ICG is to lead the search and guard operations. This force is highly active especially through the natural calamities such a cyclones and other see disasters. ICG has saved thousands of lives from sea accidents.
Another important role that the ICG plays is, Marine environment protection. It takes necessary and measures to control marine pollution and sustain marine life and humanitarian.
There Motto " VAYAM RAKSAMAH", which means we protect is completely justified by the reactions and the truly live up to it. The Indian Coast Guard is a two reflection of high spirits and true sense of service. Their service goes beyond The coastal duty, their unshaking courage, discipline and loyalty for the nation is the reason why we live peacefully.
Considering India's identity, with and extensive coastline of approximately 7,516.6 km, The ICG greatly contributes in sustaining these coastlines.
