Trump unveils the new "Gold card" Visa program
Recently Donald Trump announced a new Gold Card visa program which is aimed at reshaping the U.S. immigration system to attract the global Elite class immigrants, providing them with the citizenship of The U.S. It is said that this program will replace the old EB-5 visa program. This is a part of Trump's America first policy.
This program offers significant advantages to the global Elite class immigrants who want to possess American citizenship. They can bypass all the hardships that are traditionally imposed in the immigration process and they can easily get the American citizenship who are willing to pay 5 million dollars.
This policy may offer significant benefits to the global Elite class and American economy but what about the ordinary workforce? U.S has been a country where high skilled professionals from different countries particularly from India have filled jobs in different software companies healthcare etc. It may cause some challenges for all the international employees working in America who have invested in the American economy. Many Indian employees working in the technology and healthcare in America will also face any challenges as they may not be able to afford to invest such a large amount of money to obtain the U.S. citizenship. This may cause large section of skilled workforce to potentially face the threat of losing their jobs which could lead to deportation.
For many years these workers have filled the gaps in the industries as there is shortage of domestic talent and this shift maybe critical for the American economic growth. This will also cause an emotional burden on those middle class workers as it will completely limit the opportunities for them. Those workers may find it difficult to secure the residency in America if they don't meet the criteria for the gold card. This can lead to a feeling of helplessness and those workers might question whether their contributions in the American economy are really valued.
The Gold Card visa program would definitely encourage a greater global collaboration of different individuals and entrepreneurs who will bring there resources in the U.S. which will help in expanding the country's economy although it does have some valid concerns for the workforce. There should be a balanced approach to attract both the high class immigrants and the hard working employees who have contributed to the countries growth.
