In 1914, 376 passengers, mostly Sikhs, Muslims, and Hindus from British India, boarded the Kamagata Maru, a Japanese ship, with the hopes of finding better opportunities in Canada. At that time, Canada had strict immigration policies, and people from India were not welcome. The ship was denied entry into Canada, and the passengers were forced to return to India after two months of waiting. Upon their return, the British colonial authorities in India treated them harshly. When the ship docke...

Gender Bias in Healthcare: A leaphole in the Society

Recently, 32 year old Priya Sharma from a small village in Uttar Pradesh went into labour at home. Her contractions very strong and she begin bleeding very heavily. Her family rushed her to the nearest public health centre but the facility had no functioning healthcare for her. She had lost too much blood and eventually died from severe hemorrhage.  Her death was not something isolated but rather a result of sidelining women's health. Although many National programs such as Janani Suraksha Yojana have been initiated yet many women arrive at empty door steps. There is a very deep rooted gender bias in medicine. For decades the male body has been treated as the 'default' and the women's pain is dismissed as something related to stress or being to emotional. As a result the women's medical needs are completely overlook and their treatment is delayed due to weight the outcome is often deadly.  Moreover all the legal barriers around the reproductive care add more risk to...

Climate Crisis 2025

Image
'Climate crisis' it is not something that we fear might happen in the future but it is happening in the contemporary scenario. The world is heating up, forests are burning, rivers are drying and the Greenland are turning into ashes. Even with all this destruction the people are just living like nothing wrong is happening at all. All the people are just using all the resources very carelessly and completely ignoring the warnings from the nature itself. And it is really very sad that how people are not at all concerned about the environment as there not just ruining it for themselves but for the upcoming generations.  If we look around it is very clear that we are not treating mother Earth the way we are supposed to. We perform all the activities that are a threat to the nature for a long term. We have been cutting down forest to build luxury for ourselves completely overlooking the need of the wildlife. We fin exploiting the most precious resource that is water by over using it ...

Indus Water Treaty Collapse: An Opening to a War?

Image
After the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that killed more than 26 tourists, which is believed to be carried out by Pakistan based militants, India responded with action and not words. The Indian government suspended the Indus water treaty. The treaty that was signed in 1960 and it was completely about the trust.  It is very easy for both sides to just blame each other but this blame is only a distraction from the real issue and what needs to be done about it. There is a very big leap hole in the authority of both the countries and their is completely a lack of leadership and vision. What's the countries must understand that the rivals will not end just by suspending some treaty. Because the people who died will never come back and their families Will forever have to hold that in the hearts. The government stated "If you keep poking, we are done playing nice.". We can pretend that this was just another diplomatic statement but we know that Pakistan is heavily...

Pahalgam Attack : Bad Luck or Ignored Responsibility?

Image
On April 22, 2025 a very heartbreaking incident took place in Pahalgam,Kashmir. Five militant  fired at a group of tourists resulting in death of more than 26 individuals. These attackers targeted the victims on the basis of their religion. This incident is also one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent years.  What happened is not just sad it was something that should not have happened at all. This attack was completely a result of failure of the authority that was supposed to protect the people. After any such incident the government makes big promises about increasing the security and protecting the people but at last only the words remain. , It is very upsetting to think of what could have been done to prevent this attack only if the authority had done its job properly. They were clear science that more security was needed but of course nobody acted on it, and it's always the innocent people who have to suffer the consequences. And the government just expect as t...
