JAHAJA WALA GURDWARA : TALHAN SAHIB

Gurudwara Shaheed Baba Nihal Singh Ji also profoundly known as Talhan Sahib is a very sacred place located in village Talhan of Jalandhar district. The history of Gurudwara Sahib is rooted in the legacy of Baba Nihal Singh Ji. He was a saint who lived a selfless life and became a martyr while serving others. He was a very important figure in the sikh history for the struggle of sikh freedom. Initially a shrine was built for him; which represents his humility. This Gurudwara is considered a manifestation of Baba Nihal Singh Ji's presence. The Gurudwara is also known for its Divine Jyoti which is lit all the time under the Banyan tree situated inside of the Gurudwara and it is believed that the Jyoti has healing powers.

The purity of the Gurudwara Sahib is deeply rooted in it's historic values. It is believed that whosoever visits The Gurudwara Sahib with a clear heart and pure intentions gets his or her wishes fulfilled. The devotees offer their prayers and respect to Baba Nihal Singh Ji to seek his blessings. The Gurudwara Sahib is greatly known for the practice of offering toy planes. It is also believed that if we wish to go abroad we should offer a toy plane along with our prayers and soon we will get a visa for our dream land.

Here's an irony , many visa agencies are situated outside the Gurudwara Sahib which operate with an aim of profiting from people who come to offer their prayers at the Gurudwara Sahib. These agencies often undermine the idea of selflessness started by Baba Nihal Singh Ji.

There is a sacred place at the Gurudwara Sahib called 'Sachkhand' where continues recitation of the Gurbani takes place. Many devotees get Akhand Path done to fulfill there prayers and to express gratitude for blessings received. It is believed that recitation of Akhand Path brings peace and enlightment to the soul and offers a deeper spiritual connection with 'Parmatma'.

The market around the gurdwara Sahib is also a must visit place for all those who want to have an experience of Punjabi culture. The market has colourful stalls offering traditional sweets, clothings, handicrafts and jwellery. On special occasions the market is very bustling. The Shaheedi Mela are the Gurudwara Sahib is held annually that honors the martyrdom of Baba Nihal Singh Ji. This event shedds light on the importance of standing up for our community and faith and is a celebration for courage and resilience of Sikhs.

There was a lady whose daughter was mobility impaired. She offered seva at the Gurudwara Sahib daily, she visited Gurudwara Sahib at 5 in the morning and offered selfless service including cleaning, preparing langar and volunteering other services at the Gurudwara Sahib with pure and clear heart and her ardaas was accepted. Very soon her daughter was able to walk on her feet again. She believes that it was all because of her Sacchi Shraddha that her ardaas got appealed.

Another story of an old man who offered prayer and seva at the gurdwara Sahib to get his son a visa for abroad. His ardaas was also appealed. He visits the Gurudwara Sahib daily and offers his seva to get his son a PR in Canada. He believes that ardaas is the basis of growth which offers an opporunity for us to connect with the divinity and to seek forgiveness and protection from Parmatma.

Overall The Gurudwara Sahib is a symbol of humility and selflessness, which continues to inspire people to this day.
