LPU: Disseminating the Traditional Art among the Youth
Lovely professional University recently organised a wood carving workshop for the students of the fine arts department in a collaboration with the Shilpakala Academy, Bangalore. The workshop was organised for 15 days to introduce students to the beauty of the wood carving.
The students got an opportunity to learn this art from very experienced artisans. The experience not only helped the students in learning the art but also made them aware of the role that art plays in preserving our culture and shaping ourselves.
As said by one of the artisans, Uday Acharya, this art is being practiced in their family for more than 500 hundred years and it requires very strict and firm religious sentiments to maintain the purity of the art, making it a very important part of India's artistic legacy.
Wood carvings were initially used in temples and important structures. With the emergence of technology in the contemporary scenerio there has been a very greater risk of the youth getting disconnected from these practices. And by organising such workshops into an academic program in institutions like LPU help you play a very important role in ensuring that these traditions continue to thrive.
The importance of such workshops cannot be overstated. In the contemporary world, traditional art forms are often forgotten. But these arts hold very strong cultural values and a rich heritage. By introducing this art to the youth we can ensure that these values and this Heritage is kept alive and is passed to the future generations. It also helps student to develop respect and understanding of the role that traditional art place in our lives.
By learning this art students learn very important values such a patience and discipline. This art also helps the youth to connect to the deep roots and learn the beliefs of the history. It was very much visible on the students faces who were practicing this art, the pride in their culture and heritage.
This workshop was a very valuable initiative organised by the lovely professional University not only gave students an opportunity to learn a skill that has been passed out through generations but also highlighted the importance of preserving the India's rich culture and heritage.
